Day of Art in Norfolk!

Today we headed through the tunnel to Norfolk for a day of ART!

The city of Norfolk is filled with Mermaid statues!

We took the girls to Color Me Mine. Jocelyn decided to paint a plate.

Madison wanted to paint this cute tooth box, so she will be ready whenever her teeth start falling out.

Madison painted it pink and purple to match her bedroom.

Jocelyn got a little more creative with her plate. She painted the front of her plate pink, purple and brown. Then she decided to paint the back orange and blue.

Time to put our pottery in the kiln. Madison can't wait to see what her tooth box looks like when it is all bright and glazed.

Jocelyn can't wait to come back next weekend and pick up our finished pottery.

After a delicious lunch at Baker's Crust, we went to the Chrysler Museum of Art.

Before we went inside we walked through the outdoor garden.

Madison thought this dress was pretty.

Jocelyn had trouble deciding which piece of artwork she liked the best.

Daddy and Madison tried to recreate this statue of a Daddy and his little girl.

We all had FUN making our own artwork at the Gallery Drawing Station.

On the way out, Daddy wanted to stop by and see if his drawing looked like the real thing.

We finished our day of Art in Norfolk with a walk down by the water.

Window Art

The girls had tons of FUN coloring on the windows today!

They were so proud of their artwork!

They decided to work together to make a beach picture.

Jocelyn was HAPPY with the crab she drew, while Madison was busy drawing her seaweed.

Jocelyn wanted to try drawing on the mirror.

She drew a heart for Mommy! :)

Time to go outside and draw on the windows.

Peanut Butter Brownie Pops & Chocolate Cake Pops!

Ever since I made the Red Velvet Cake Pops last week, Clay has been thinking up new combinations to try. Here they are:

Peanut Butter Brownie Pops!

First I made a pan of brownies. Then I crushed them up. I decided to make my own cream cheese frosting this time using cream cheese, confectioner sugar, butter and vanilla. Mix the cream cheese frosting into the brownie crumbs. Form the mixture into balls and place them on wax paper. Melt 2 cups of peanut butter chips with 2 Tbsp. of shortening. Dip one end of the popsicle stick into the melted peanut butter and place it in the brownie ball. Spoon the melted peanut butter over the brownie ball and sprinkle with brownie crumbs.

Chocolate Cake Pops!

First I made a chocolate cake. Then I crushed it up into crumbs. I combined the cake crumbs with the homemade cream cheese frosting. Then I form the mixture into balls and placed them on wax paper. This time I melted 2 cups of Hershey Hugs with 2 Tbsp. of shortening. Dip one end of the popsicle stick into the melted chocolate and place it in the cake ball. Spoon the melted chocolate over the cake ball and sprinkle with cake crumbs.

Clay liked his flavor combinations, but had to admit that they were both VERY RICH and SWEET. He was only able to eat one of each. He also needed a BIG glass of milk to help balance the richness. I am not a big chocolate person, so I just tried one bite of each. We both liked the chocolate cake pops more than the peanut butter brownie pops.

Our New Hats!

Yesterday we got our new hats in the mail from Curly Sue Creations.

The girls couldn't wait to try them on.

Now all we need is cooler weather. ;)

Virginia Living Museum with the Kitsteiner Family!

Today we took the Kitsteiner Family to the Virginia Living Museum.

The boys had FUN touching the animals at the Touch Tank!

Elijah was playing peek-a-boo with me in the log.

They all LOVED seeing the otter playing in the water!

We enjoyed walking the boardwalk before the temperature reached the 100's today.

We are so happy that the Kitsteiner Family decided to spending the weekend with us before they move to Turkey.

The girls helped make a special banner for them.

After dinner we went outside to play.

Red Velvet Cake Pops!

This is all you need to make your own Cake Pops!

First you bake the cake. We decided to make a Red Velvet cake.

Then you break up the cake to make cake crumbs.

The girls had lots of FUN destroying the cake. ;)

Add the icing to the cake crumbs and mix it well.

Then form the mixture into balls.

Melt the chocolate (2 cups of chocolate with 2 Tablespoons of shortening). Dip one end of the popsicle stick into the melted chocolate and then place it into each cake ball. Spoon the melted chocolate over each cake ball. We decided to sprinkle our cake pops with some of the red velvet cake crumbs. One box mix made about 30 cake pops. They are so much FUN to eat! We can't wait to make them again with different flavor combinations.
