Red, White and Blue Cake

Our friend Kendra made a Valentine's Day Cake and included a link to a cool Rainbow Cake. Ever since I saw the cakes I have wanted to try it. The girls were missing Daddy today so I decided to distract them by baking. I showed them the pictures of the cakes and asked them what colors they would like to make their cake. They decided that we should make a red, white and blue cake for Daddy. I reminded them that we couldn't send Daddy the cake, but we could send him pictures of it and this could be our practice cake for when he comes home.

We made the cake mix according the box instructions.

Then we divided the batter and added the food coloring.

Madison made the red cake batter and Jocelyn made the blue cake batter.

Madison made the frosting while the cakes were in the oven.

Jocelyn was trying to figure out why her blue cake looked green when it came out of the oven.

The girls helped frost the cake and added a lot of red and blue sprinkles.

We wish Daddy was here to eat it with us.

Someday I still want to make a true Rainbow Cake. But after making our small version of the cake, I realize that making a Rainbow Cake will be very time consuming and a little too hard for my tiny helpers. Maybe we can try it in a couple years. ;)

Madison Makes Us Lunch

Madison wanted to make us lunch all by herself today. She got everything out to make us peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

First she spread the jelly.

Then she put on the peanut butter.

She was very proud of her work.

She even cut off the crust.

Time to cut the sandwich in half and ENJOY!

Good Morning, Jocelyn!

Jocelyn was the first one awake this morning. I heard her dragging something down the stairs, so I snuck down to see what she was up to. When I got downstairs she was all snuggled up...

on the couch with her dolls. She had snuck into Madison closet and dragged the My Size Barbie down the stairs by her hair. I guess since no one else was awake she decided to get some dolls out to talk to and snuggle with.

Another Letter from Daddy!

The girls were excited to see that they got another letter in the mail from Daddy!

Madison loves hearing how much Daddy misses her and can't wait to come home.

Jocelyn likes the little pictures that Daddy draws at the bottom of his letters. This time he drew a picture of the field mouse that he found in the supply closet. Yucky! He also drew us a picture of his bedroom.

Goodbye Granddaddy!

We have loved having Granddaddy here the last few days.

This morning we took a walk down to the water to look at the boats with him. Then Granddaddy and I got the girls on the school bus and then he and I went to lunch together before I dropped him off at the airport. We are sad to see him go, but we are looking forward to seeing him in 25 days when the girls and I fly down to spend 3 weeks in Florida with him and Grandma!!!

Virginia Living Museum

Today we went to the Virginia Living Museum with Granddaddy!

Our Little Ladybug was so excited when we walked inside and she saw this Big Ladybug.

We saw the cutest little chipmunks. Madison wants one for a pet now.

We headed outside to the boardwalk.

We saw some really cool animals up close while we walked the boardwalk.
