Vinegar Volcano

This week Jocelyn has been working on the letters D and V. Both of the girls enjoyed making dirt for a special snack. They added gummy insects to the top of their chocolate pudding, Cool Whip, and Oreo cookie creations.

Today we took some basic household ingredients and did a science experiment.

The girls used the leftover dirt to make their own little volcanos.

The girls can't wait to see their volcanos erupt!

Insects!

Today we began our study of insects. Much to our surprise we found a cricket in our playroom this morning. We decide to catch it, observe it, and then safely release it outside.

After school we had to run some errands, but we made time for a stop at the splash pad.

The girls loved playing in the water before heading home.

They couldn't believe it when we got home and discovered that our live butterfly and ladybug larvae had arrived in the mail.

Madison decided to name her caterpillars. Sally, Maggie, and Kaitlyn are very active and enjoy crawling all over the place. Two of her caterpillars haven't moved yet, so she named them Lazy and Sleepy. She is hoping that they aren't dead.

Jocelyn had too many ladybug larvae to name. ;)

We are looking forward to watching the metamorphosis into Ladybugs and Butterflies!

Happy 38th Anniversary!

Today we want to wish Grandma and Granddaddy a Happy 38th Anniversary!

Madison says, "I am really excited that it is your 38th wedding anniversary today. I love you and miss you. I hope you get my e-mail."

Jocelyn says, "Happy 38th Anniversary! I love you and miss you."

Crazy Hair Day!

Jocelyn has been working on the letters c and e, so we decided to have a "Crazy Hair Day." Madison opted for a side ponytail and Jocelyn just wanted to wear a crazy flower petal headband to go with her flower outfit. The girls also practiced addressing envelopes today. So watch your mailboxes, you might just be getting something from the girls.

We have also been learning about syllables, so the girls enjoyed playing Clap a Word.

We have been learning about Native Americans in History. Madison enjoyed making a totem pole like the Nootka Indians. She also made a teepee just like the Sioux Indians. Her Littlest Pets are enjoying their new home.

Today we were learning about the Hopi Indians and did a weaving project.

The girls did a great job weaving. They are even talking about weaving some special placemats for Thanksgiving this year.

Goodbye Gray Hairs!

I have been having to pluck out more and more random gray hairs, so I finally decided to color my hair for the first time. Daddy and the girls help me pick out a temporary color to try.

Madison took my before picture. You can't really see the gray hairs, but believe me they are in there.

Here is the after picture. It doesn't look much different, but it did cover the gray. Clay says, "it looks more red." Madison says, "it looks the same" and Jocelyn says, "it looks longer." ;)

Happy Grandparent's Day!

Ziploc Art

The girls enjoyed making Ziploc art today. First, they put a plain piece of white paper in a large Ziploc bag. Then they dipped several Q-tips in different colored paints and tossed them in the Ziploc bag with the white paper. Finally, they closed the Ziploc bag and shook it.

They loved pulling their paper out of the Ziploc bag to reveal their one of a kind artwork.
